This blog was started around a benefit concert on October 2, 2012, which Antoine Bustros and I, Máire Noonan, organised to raise some funds for the Gaza Music School. Shortly after, a group of us, Hagit Borer, Antoine Bustros, Noam Chomsky, David Heap, Stephanie Kelly, Assaf Kfoury, Philippe Prévost, Verena Stresing, Laurie Tuller and myself, Máire Noonan, traveled to Gaza to participate in the first international language and linguistics conference at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), and to meet and interact with local academics and activists. We traveled in support of a free Palestine and restoration of justice to the Palestinian people. (For a short history of how this trip came about see here.) Antoine Bustros gave a concert organised by the local BDS (Boycott-Divestment-Sanctions) committee.
I decided to continue this blog to tell the story of our voyage, and after retuning to Canada, to continue updating the blog with stories and photos.
Since the onslaught on Gaza in November 2012, I have also begun using this space for updates, commentaries, updates on solidarity actions, for posting thoughts on the painful events during the eight days of bombing, and for posting words we get from our sisters and brothers who are in Gaza.
You will also find entries by other members of our group of travelers.
